Information about Changing Line Spacing in MS Word

Line Spacing: Line spacing basically sets the amount of space between the lines within a paragraph. This spacing for each line is actually set to hold the largest font on that line. If the lines hold smaller fonts, there extra space will appear between the lines at the place where those smaller fonts are located.

At 1.5 amount, the line spacing will be set to one-and-a-half times the single-space amount. At 2.0 amount, the line spacing will be set to two times the single-space amount (i.e. double space).
