Process to Set the Page Orientation in MS Word Documents

Before printing a document in MS Word, one might want to change the orientation of its pages. Following are the two orientations one can choose from:

  • Portrait
  • Landscape

Portrait and Landscape: Paper with size 8 1/2 by 11, is longer on one edge and shorter on the other. If the document is printed in Portrait orientation, then the shortest edge of the paper becomes the top of the page. The Portrait orientation is actually the default option in MS Word. If the document is printed in the Landscape option, then the longest edge of the paper becomes the top of the page.

Setting the Orientation

  1. Foremost step is to choose the 'Page Layout' tab
  2. Now, in the 'Page Setup' group, one needs to click 'Orientation'
  3. A menu will appear
  4. One needs to now click 'Portrait' or 'Landscape' as is the requirement
  5. Word sets the page orientation to the chosen one
